Consolidate DOE Nuclear Efforts
It is time for serious reform at the Department of Energy. There are at least five distinct nuclear R&D efforts, none of which are based on any central policy. The only possible result is disorganization and waste--and cuts in valuable programs. The Molten Salt Reactor development program, for instance, is receiving a scant $40,000 annually for what should be one of the department's highest priority efforts, while millions are wasted on needless bureaucracy and turf wars.
