Petition for a Sustainable Energy Future

NIRS has been circulating it.

What’s more sustainable than an industry that recycles its waste products into fuel, is millions of times more efficient in fuel-use than any other, and has the best safety record of any industry in history (its ’safety problem’ being a worst-case scenario of something that might have the possibility of happening sometime in the future, whereas others have actual problems that are actually happening and actually affecting real people and the real environment)?

Oh, right, eliminating the product.

Anti-Nuclear Quote of the Day

“In September 1980, balloons were released from the proposed site for a nuclear reactor at Langton Herring in Dorset. The balloons were labeled: ‘I am a radioactive particle routinely emitted from the proposed nuclear power station on Chesil Beach in Dorset. Please return me if you find me (address given); we must all know how far I can reach.’ Balloons were returned from Belgium, Germany, and the Isle of Wight.”

-Hilary Bacon and John Valentine, activists

They didn’t add:
“Notice how little got to you, how weak it was when it did, the extremely low probability of encountering any of it, and how harmless it was.”

NIOF Store

I am told that in early September we will be able to offer framed tile coasters, smaller buttons, rectangular magnets, and something described only as ‘cap.’ They will be available to you as soon as they are available to me.

Custom postage will be available whenever I get a chance to take a digital picture of a nuclear power plant, which is about the only thing they’ll let me put on it.

Anti-Nuclear Quote of the Day

“Dr. Gerald Drake has recorded a significant excess of leukemia and brain tumors near the Big Rock Point nuclear plant in Michigan during the years 1972-75; and in 18 counties bordering an area containing three boiling-water reactors, the rate of leukemia, despite increased public health care, is declining less rapidly than elsewhere in the country.”

Your Chance to Comment on Plutonium Production

I just noticed this and I thought some people might want to check it out.

Unfortunately, the deadline is today.

FUND HUMAN NEEDS

So says the Global Network Against Weapons and Nuclear Power in Space webpage. This makes me seethe on two counts.

1. Yeah, let’s stop using electricity to “fund human needs.” That makes a whole lot of sense.

2. These people are pitting development of technology against welfare. Where are life expectancy and standard of living higher, industrialized countries or the third world?

“[Plutonium is] similar to the action of the drug thalidomide.”

I’m trying to be more conscientious with posting. I know there hasn’t been anything posted here of value in the last week and I’m working on it. I’m also working on the website but that’s no excuse and I know it. I apologize to the people who evidently come here (see hit counter) for not making this page a worthwhile read.

NIOF.org Update #9

I have been working on gradually adding pages and all the links on the home page should now work except What We Did Wrong and What We Can Do Right.

I have also added a very long article which contains almost all information on the site.
